Chilli Masala

Emerging from Adelaide's vibrant Jazz/Hip-Hop scene, Chilli Masala are a young four-piece band with a unique sound, combining influences such as Herbie Hancock, The Cat Empire and Ani Difranco to produce passionate and lively music with a hint of social commentary.

Forming under the name ‘Chilli Masala’ at the beginning of 2010, the band have made a number of notable performances over the past year, including the opening of SALA festival, being the live band for ‘urban myth theatre of youth’s production of ‘Twelfth Night’ as well as playing at various private functions and venues around Adelaide such as 'The Cavern' and ‘Cocolat’. In May 2010, Chilli Masala entered 'triple J unearthed high competition' and were extremely successful, managing to reach number 1 on the weekly pop charts to raving reviews.

The funky, soulful sounds produced by this happy bunch of year 12 students can be described as a mixture of jazz and indie-pop with elements of hip-hop. Their energetic live shows currently feature a knockout horn section consisting of the finest players from Jazz SA youth superband and are an experience not to be missed!
